Molokai Info
Molokai is located about 25 miles southeast of Oahu, and 8 miles across the Pailolo Channel from Maui. Half of the 8,000 residents live in or near the principal town of Kaunakakai. Since nearly 40% of the inhabitants are of Hawaiian descent, this is called "The Most Hawaiian Island." Western civilization first touched the island in 1832 when a Protestant mission was established at Kalua'aha by Reverend Harvey Hitchcock. The walls of his early church still stand today. Molokai once housed a leprosy colony.
