Black sand beach on road to Hana - Road to Hana (****Editors Choice)
This all day tour by car travels only 52 miles, but the view is fantastic and the route is on a small road with dozens of curves and one lane bridges. You’ll see remarkable vistas and gorgeous sights - waterfalls, gardens, a black sand beach, lush vegetation and much mode. Relax and take the entire day to enjoy the ride. Pick up an information CD from a store in Maui – play it as you travel – it will tell you where to look, where to stop and what to do on the road. Once you’re in Hana – buy a tee-shirt that says “I survived the Road to Hana.
- Visit the Wailua and Kanahualui Falls on the Hana Hwy, mile marker 45
- In Hana, visit Charles Lindberg’s grave located beside the quiet Palapala Ho'omau Church.
- Take a guided tour of Maui and Ioa Valley
- Ride the steam locomotive Sugar Cane Train between historic Lahaina town and the resorts of Kaanapali. Okay if you like trains -- not much to see.
- Visit Lahaina – this quaint
“whaling village” town is about as picturesque as you can get. Just stroll around the town – see a banyan tree that is as big as a city block. Sample foods, browse art galleries, take a boat tour – its all there in Lahaina. This village is often called the “jewel in the crown of Maui" and the “home of Maui heritage.” Here is what you’ll exierience in Lahaina:

- Cascades (West Maui at Hyatt)- Hawaiian dishes/sushi in a covered outdoor setting. $$-$$$

- CJ's Deli & Diner A neighborhood family restaurant and bakery. American comfort foods and Hawaian specalties. $ (Ka'anapali)

- Moose McGillycuddy's - Maui (Lahaina) – for the atmosphere & live bands - burgers, etc - gets mixed reviews. $$

- Cheeseburger In Paradise – (Lahaina) – inexpensive, good greasy burgers & fixings - go for the atmosophere - several other locations in Hawaii (and Key West).

- Cilantro (Lahaina) - Fast food Mexican with an authentic flavor. Best on Maui if you need a Mexican fix. $

- Dragon Dragon Chinese $-$$ (Central Maui) Near the Maui Megaplex theaters.

- DA Kitchen Kahului - Small restaurants that is a favorite of the locals. Hawaiian plate lunches. A great place for local flavor. $-$$

- The Gazebo Restaurant - 5315 Lower Honoapiilani Road, north of Kaanapali - A little out of the way, but with a great view -- breakfast and lunch only. Best breakfast value on Maui. $ (West Maui)

- Gerard's (Lahaina) -- French cusine -- one of Maui's best. $$$$


- Haliimaile General Store (Haliimaile) A little out of the way, but chef Bev Gannon cooks up some great regional dishes while maintaining her Texas roots. $$

- Hana Hou Cafe (Haiku) Eat were locals choose -- laid back & comfortable plus good regional food. $$

- Honokowai Okazuya - A small, inexpensive carry-out place for people who want to good food without the price of a restaurant (West Maui) $

- Hula Grill (West Maui) Good food and service on the beach -- try the hula pie -Mmmm $$$

- I O Restaurant - Waterfront dining in Lahaina. Chef James McDonald whips up delicious seafood and steaks. $$$$
